How To Deal With Unsupportive People During Weight Loss
One issue that most dieters will battle at some point or another is unsupportive people who are just not that encouraging of their efforts to lose weight. Whether these people are not encouraging because they feel guilty they cannot make the same positive health changes in their own light or they are unsupportive because t hey feel as though you are not spending as much time with them any longer since you adopted this new workout program, they are going to be upset and let you know about it.
Learning how to deal with these unsupportive people will be incredibly important because if you don't, they may just begin to get to you.
It's a fact that those who do have supportive environments as they go about the process of weight loss do tend to do better, so if you can work on getting these people to change their tune, you will be that much better off.
Here are some points to consider.
Tell Them Your Reasons The first thing that you can do that may help unsupportive people understand your efforts better is telling them all the reasons you have for wanting to making these changes.
Sometimes it's simply a matter of them not understanding why you would be making so many changes when they thought you looked and felt healthy before.
As they come to realize your reasons they may get a glimpse of how important this is to you and start to be more supportive.
Ask Them To Join In Another technique that can work quite well when dealing with people who don't support your weight loss goals is to ask them if they want to join in.
If the person is feeling left out with you always running off to your kickboxing class for example, ask if she wants to join you.
This could easily remedy the situation and as an added benefit, you will have just found yourself a new workout partner.
Express How You Feel If both of those techniques don't work, then it's time to approach the issue head on. This means telling them that what they are doing is really bothering you and if they can't find a way to be supportive, you may not be spending as much time around them.
It may not feel like the nicest way to handle the situation, but if you're serious about getting results and they are really being a negative influence, it will be something that you must do.
Anyone who does really care about you deep down should respect your wishes.
Make Some Serious Decisions Finally, if after that they are still not paying you the respect that you deserve, then it's time to find some other people who will.
While there are certain people you just simply cannot cut out of your life, you can choose how often you spend time around them.
It can be a very difficult decision for sure, but you really must question also how much these people care about you if they are that unwilling to be supportive of your efforts despite your best intensions of trying to improve the situation.
So keep these tips in mind. Dealing with those who are not supportive of your weight loss is a trying situation but with the right steps, you usually can solve the problem.
